🏔 5 Days Mount Kenya Climb
Naro Moru Route Up – Chogoria Route Down
Climb Africa’s second-highest mountain, Mount Kenya, via the popular Naro Moru route and descend through the most scenic Chogoria route.
This route combination offers excellent acclimatization, less crowded summit approach via Austrian Hut, and a breathtaking sunrise at Point Lenana (4,985m).
📍 Day 1: Naro Moru Gate (2,400m) – Met Station (3,050m)
Distance: 9 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
After registration at Naro Moru Gate, begin your hike through dense rainforest and bamboo zones. The trail is wide and gradual, making it a comfortable start.
Arrive at Met Station (3,050m) for dinner and overnight. This is your first step in altitude acclimatization.
📍 Day 2: Met Station (3,050m) – Mackinder’s Camp (4,200m)
Distance: 11 km
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
The landscape changes from forest to open moorland filled with giant lobelias and groundsels unique to Mt Kenya.
You pass through the famous vertical bog (depending on weather conditions) before reaching Mackinder’s Camp at 4,200m.
Dinner and overnight at the camp.
📍 Day 3: Mackinder’s Camp (4,200m) – Austrian Hut (4,750m)
Distance: 4 km (steep section)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Today is short but steep as you ascend into alpine terrain. Austrian Hut is located close to the majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion.
Early dinner and rest in preparation for summit attempt.
📍 Day 4: Austrian Hut – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Chogoria Bandas (2,950m)
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
Wake up around 2:30am for summit push.
Reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise for unforgettable views. On clear mornings, you may even see Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
After summit celebration and photos, descend via the spectacular Chogoria route, passing alpine lakes and dramatic valleys before arriving at Chogoria Bandas for overnight.
📍 Day 5: Chogoria Bandas – Chogoria Gate
Descend through forest and bamboo to Chogoria Gate.
Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Nairobi.
